Tsung-Hua Yang, Mao-Xin Gong enter the second round – Beijing International Challengers 2011
Chinese tennis pro Tsung-Hua Yang earned a hard fought 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Finn Harri Heliovaara on Tuesday to book a second round berth at the 2011 Beijing International Challengers tournament here in Beijing, China.
Tsung-Hua Yang showed astonishing determination and temperament to come back from behind in the match. Despite losing the opener in first half an hour, the Chinese continued to play his natural game freely. With little bit of luck on his side, he converted
most of the break opportunities in the last two sets to seal victory in a match that lasted for more than one hour and 57 minutes on the hard courts of Beijing Tennis centre.
Ranked 293rd in the Association of Tennis Professionals rankings, Harri made a bright start to the match. He executed his big forehand and backhand winners to perfection and soon took a very healthy 6-5 lead in the opener.
Breaking the serve at regular intervals, he dented his opponent confidence levels. Converting his service games with ease, he pocketed the set to go 1-0 up in the set score.
Looking to find a way back into the contest, Tsung-Hua Yang looked to make of the most of available opportunities in the following set. After the contestants exchanged several serve breaks, the set entered a very exciting phase
with the game score levelled at 3-3. The 20-year-old Tsung-Hua Yang had his third break chance of the set at 4-3. Converting it with a powerful serve return, he took a crucial 5-3 lead, serving for the set. Securing his next service game easily, he shifted
the balance of the contest.
Ranked 250th in the world, Tsung-Hua Yang continued to display some high quality tennis in the final set as well to establish complete control over the match. He made the only serve break of the set and despite some
fierce resistance put up by the challenger; he was able to accomplish his goals as he completed a memorable victory to march into the next round.
Mao-Xin Gong also made it to the second round with a stunning 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4) effort against the Israeli Amir Weintraub on Tuesday.
Mao made a strong start to the match; however, he succumbed to the vast magnitude of unforced errors in the second set to lose it 4-6. However, he regrouped himself and displayed some high quality tennis in the decider to grab
an important victory. Playing the crucial points really brilliantly, he showed that he can handle the pressure well.
Despite firing 13 serve aces in the match, Amir was unable to keep his composure as he experienced a very demoralising defeat.
