Tsung-Hua Yang bamboozles Maverick Banes to progress into round two – Burnie 2012 CH
Chinese youngster, Tsung-Hua Yang, booked a berth in the second round of the Burnie Challenger after defeating the Aussie teenager, Maverick Banes, in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. The match went just for an hour and seven minutes; with
the Chinese tennis ace dominating all the way.
It was the second win in a row for the Chinese tennis star against the Aussie participant; first of the victories came in the opening round of the Australian Open (juniors) tournament way back in 2008. The result was obvious, considering
that Yang was ranked way superior than his competitor. Although he was facing a lot of troubles in the recent past, losing eight of his last ten encounters, he was still the match favourite considering his superior game play and vast experience.
Banes commence the match with a nervy serve game. He was successful in holding on to his serve but not before he was tested to his limits with three deuces by his counterpart. Yang easily held on to his serve and the scores were
pushed to 1-1. The Aussie started the third game in commanding fashion, belting some eye-startling winners to hold his serve. Yang was put under the cosh in the next game and after saving two breakpoints he managed to hold on to his serve and levelled the
scores at 2-2.
Both players traded three successive serve breaks between in the ratio of 2:1 to Yang. The 20-years-old Chinese finally held his serve in the eighth game to exert immense pressure on his opponent; scores were 5-3 in favour of Yang.
Banes failed to deliver the basics and committed double-fault at the most vital stage of the game. Yang capitalized on that opportunity and struck couple of cross court winners to round off the first set proceedings in his favour.
He carried the momentum into the second set and held his serve. The Aussie teenager was under pressure at the start but managed to hold on successfully to his serve and levelled the scores at 1-1. An all round onslaught came from
the Chinese that featured two successive breakthroughs that were good enough to seal him the place in the second round draws.
