"Tu vas" is you go, right.

So what is "Tu te vas"?

I know when you're talking about someone else you include them before with me, te, le, se and so on, but doesn't "Tu te vas" just mean you you go?

  1. Tu te vas? = are you leaving?

  2. "Irse" means "to go away", "to leave". So "Tú te vas"= "you go away", "you leave", "you are going away", "you are leaving".

It is often used with a destination: as in "Te vas a España" - "You're off to Spain";"me voy a casa" - I'm going home", "I'm off home".

In Spanish, reflexive particles (me, te, se, etc) are often used with verbs, especially in conversation, when you would not expect them or where there is no suggestion of someone doing something to themselves: as in "¿Porqué te ríes?" - "Why are you laughing?", "What are you laughing at?". Expressions like this which you cannot translate exactly are called "idioms" - you get used to them in time.

  3. "Tú te vas" is a statement; an order in fact: You are leaving. (as in "get out!")

"¿Tú te vas?" is a question: Are you leaving?

    Simple enough for you?

  4. no, it doesn't mean you you go.

It is very common to find a similar expression in the spanish language. The second pronoun has a function to give more strength to the fact that - in this case - the person is going away.

you can find the repetition of pronouns also in the sentence "a mì me  gusta" and it is grammatically correct!! For example in my language - italian - it is completly wrong repeating 2 times a pronoun even if in the oral language people use it. Maybe in the future it will become a grammatic rule.

Furthermore it is easier to find the sentence "te vas" than "only "vas", the first one sounds much nicer to the ears and makes you understand better the meaning of "going away"!!!

I hope I have cleared your doubts.

    Kisses

  5. "Tu te vas" means "you yourself go" or "you go away."

  7. Are you going?   (its like asking - are you going aswell?)

    or Are you leaving?

You can say "te vas?" - it's just a shorter version of the same question.
