I need to go tubing this weekend and I don't know how to tie a rope for a tube. I have that little piece that connects to both hooks on the boat and the merges them into one with a small red piece.

Thank you for helping so kids can have fun!!!

  1. First off, did you buy a cheap general purpose nylon rope used for general use to pull the tube or did you buy a tube rope?  You really should buy a rope specifically made for pulling tubes since tubes tend to drag more than glide on the water like skis or wakeboards.

Example of a economy priced tube/towable rope:

Second, does your boat have an "eye" or hook on the middle of the stern of your boat?

An eye for hooking up a towing rope looks like this:

If it does use an eye, then use the towing eye instead and you do not need a tow harness to tie to both anchor eyes at the stern for securing the boat for trailering.

This is an anchor eye:  http://www.attwoodmarine.com/products/im...

    Typical towing harness:

Otherwise, if you need the towing harness, take the towable rope and see if it will hook onto on the towable rope or if the towable rope can move in the hole and you can tie to it.  If the tow will not attach to it, then you will probably have to buy a hook that will attach to the tube rope and securely hook onto the tow harness.  Make sure the hook or clip you get can is strong enough and can easily be removed off but will not accidently slip off.

In short, find out if you need that "tow kit" or not by looking for the tow eye.  Then buy a rope made for towables and practice hooking everything up on land at home.  This will eliminate any issues of not having the needed equipment before going to the lake.

  3. Don't exactly understand exactly what you are talking about, but the rope should clip onto the tube and then when you tie it to the boat you should use the eye which is that little metal piece centered on the back of the boat.  The way you tie it on is by folding the end back so a little circle is created, then you put that circle over the eye and if done properly the rope with pull against itself and stay attached.  Also if you don't already have one, there are special tubing ropes that have alastic bungy in the middle and this is a blast because it allows the tube wo whip around quicker. Have fun.
