Question:

Tubing in Texas? Floating the river?

I want to go float the river next weekend (in Texas) and thought I'd get some recommendations. I've heard good things about the "horseshoe loop" on the Guadalupe. What about the Frio river? Anyone been to either of those? Have a favorite? Know of any other places to go tubing? I've looked online but I was overwhelmed with options. So any advice will help me out! Thanks!

  1. You can't go wrong with either one of those, the Medina is another one. It will be cold!

  2. San Marcos has a spot for tubing...somewhere around the college, I think. Then there's Gruene, but I heard they're re-doing that low-water bridge, do I can't say which way to come in from. Parking's always a pain there, too. But great restaurants (Gruene River Grill, hint hint). Oh, almost forgot...River Road, out of New Braunfels. All kinds of places along there. But you gotta pay.

  3. I lived in Corpus Christi for many years, many years ago.  A big group of us went to the Guadalupe every Memorial Day weekend.  We camped on a man made lake and played with our jet skis and water skies and then took one day to float the river.

We liked it because it was fast enough to have fun spots but safe enough to take kids.

Two things if you do the Guadalupe.  First, you must do the "Chutes."  Second, this river raises to flood stage in literally minutes if you get a big rainfall.  Be careful.
