Tucson Ford nabs Women’s 400m and 800m free-relay titles - Southwest Classic 2011
Tucson Ford dominated day one of the 2011 Southwest Classic, as their swimmers won both the Women’s 400m and 800m free-relay titles at Tucson, Arizona, on June 13, 2011.
In the Women’s 400m free-relay race, Margo Geer, Kait Flederbach, Leone Vorster and Christine Magnuson of Tucson Ford snared the golden crown with a sterling time of 3 minutes and 48.50 seconds.
Pool conditions were comfortable for the long-distance race swimmers, as they came out passionately in the 400m free-relay final in front of the sold-out crowd and ended the race in winning style.
After the long distance meet, captain of Tucson Ford acknowledged the performance of her team, as they were quite unstoppable in the corresponding race from the beginning. She added that this performance will certainly lend a hand to their team for future events.
Tucson Ford swimmer, Christine Magnuson, commented that victory will give them immense confidence to compete against challenging rivals in upcoming events.
On the other hand, the Women’s 800m free-relay title was clinched by Gracie Finnegan, Vorster, Geer and Alyssa Anderson of Tucson Ford with a winning time of 8 minutes and 36.72 seconds.
In another meet, Maggie Meyer, Annie Chandler, Magnuson and Geer of Tucson Ford nabbed the Women’s 400m medley-relay crown with a victorious time of 4 minutes and 13.20 seconds. The team continued the dominance of their squad in the pool, as they grabbed the gold medal in scintillating fashion.
Tucson Ford’s swimmers came out auspiciously in the event and won almost all of their vital races. Many other swimmers of the team including Annie Chandler, Christine Magnuson, Marcus Titus and Masayuki Kishida also won their own swimming events with considerable ease.
The Southwest Classic 2011 is one of the most significant events before the upcoming World Swimming Championships in Shanghai, this July. Tournaments like these will surely help swimmers to enhance their skills and prepare well before the all-important meet in China commences. The top ten finishers of each event in the Championships will qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
