I love the Tudors and the movie "The Other Boleyn Girl" Are there any other movies or shows like them?

  1. A Man For All Seasons (1966) - a classic film about the relationship between Sir Thomas More and Henry VIII, and the King's break with Rome to marry Anne. It focuses mainly on More and his character, belief and ensuing trial for treason. Paul Schofield won one of it's eight oscars for Best Actor. Simply brilliant.

The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933) - another classic, this time b&w, that covers the time period through all of Henry's marriages. Henry is played by Charles Laughton (the original Captain Bligh on the Bounty, and the hunchback Quasimodo) who won an oscar for his performance.

Elizabeth (1998) - this covers the early years of the reign of Elizabeth I and stars Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush, Christopher Ecclestone, Joseph Fiennes, Richard Attenborough and John Gielgud. Well worth watching.

There are many others, including the 1971 BBC TV show Elizabeth R.,or the Channel 4 version Elizabeth I starring Helen Mirren.

  2. Elizabeth

  3. Elizabeth is an incredible movie. There's also a sequel called Elizabeth: The Golden Age...you've got to see the first one first, though...and the second one isn't quite as good.

Shakespeare in Love isn't about the Tudors, but it takes place in that time period, and it's amazing.

Here are some others--haven't seen them, but they might be good:

    Lady Jane Gray

    Mary, Queen of Scots

Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex

    Tudor Rose
