Tulsa Hurricane Volleyball team gets back to back victories over weekend

The women’s volleyball team of University of Tulsa, Golden Eagles, gave out an outstanding performance at the weekend. They played two matches on Saturday, October 8, and Sunday, October 9, against Southern Mississippi and clinched success in both fixtures.
The Donald W. Reynolds Centre in Tulsa University set up the field of play for interesting encounters and created a wonderful sporty environment for spectators. The host team performed up to the mark and finished off both matches with similar 3-0 record.
The Southern Mississippi team failed to beat the Hurricane squad and returned home with the loss of two crucial conference plays.

The two teams got together for the first meeting on Saturday, October 8 at the Reynolds Centre. The local squad demonstrated a stellar performance and held off Southern Mississippi for a 3-0 (28-26, 25-12, 25-23) victory, which improved Tulsa Hurricane’s
record to 14-5. Tyler Henderson played a big role in Tulsa Hurricane’s victory as she tallied 20 kills. Likewise, Jessica Adams contributed 18 digs to lead the hosts to victory. On the other hand, Lauren Sears of Southern Mississippi supported her side with
10 kills, while Amelia Hendrickson recorded 12 digs.
The Head Coach of Golden Eagles, McRoberts, stated: "We had a couple of days of determined practices. I think the beginning of that first set was a little bit of a hangover from that SMU loss and we had a couple of bounces not go our way. You can take two
lines of thought there, either `Here it goes again,' or `We're going to fight through this and not let this happen.' At the end of that is when you could really see them saying, `We're not going to lose this set. We're not going to lose this match.' And as
a team, we really turned it on."
Golden Eagles 3, Southern Mississippi 0
Following their great success on Saturday, the Golden Eagles extended their winning streak to 2-0 by capturing second match against Southern Mississippi on Sunday, October 9. The double-digit scores of Kellie Culbertson, Tyler Henderson and Diana Silva were
enough to lead Tulsa Hurricane to a solid 3-0 (27-25, 25-18, 25-23) victory in the match. The same Reynolds Centre in Tulsa, Oklahoma hosted the second match.
With a second straight victory, Hurricane team improved to 15-5 overall and 6-1 in Conference-USA play. The opposite side suffered the loss of two matches and fell to a 7-11 record overall and 1-5 in league play.
Comparatively, the Southern Mississippi team played well on the second day. They strengthened their defense line and also stayed put on the net. Nonetheless, it seemed as if they were out of luck. They dropped opening set with slight margin of two points
at 27-25 and remained shy of victory by trailing just two points in the third set.
