Ok so i am 13 and i want to start tumbling. I no basic stuff (at least i think it's basic) like the side splits, back bend, cartwheel, forward roll, backward roll, handstand (only against a wall), round off (almost) things like that. For my first tumbling class what should I wear (keep in mind that I am 20 lbs. over weight so nothing skintight) and should I have my hair pulled up of leave it down? What will i learn in the class (beginner) or am i ready for a more advanced class? Please answer all my questions as I would like to know before i start the class. Thanks in advance and I will be choosing a best answer.

  1. Just wear shorts and a loose t-shirt, (not too loose though, something you could run in). Also you'ld be great start with the beginner class, once you get your round-off, back and front walkovers, standing back handspring, and front handspring, round-off back handspring, you'll be ready for the advanced class. You'll learn these skills in the beginner class. Your not ready for an intermediate or advanced class, yet. once you master that round-off you'll have basic skills. Of course, wear your hair in a pony tail or bun.(That's a rule in most gyms). Train hard. Love the sport.

  2. Although you don't want to wear anything skin tight, what you wear should still be tight fitting. In tumbling you tend to be upside down quite a bit and loose clothes will flop and interfere with your technique. Your hair should defiantly be up as that is also disruptive to your tumbling. You are still a beginner and are not ready for an advanced class. I'm sure that once you have progressed your coach will let you know if you are ready to learn harder tricks in a more advanced level.

    Hope this helps :)

  3. I would say that a regular tshirt and some shorts are fine.

The tshirt shouldn't be too tight because sometimes the spotters grab the shirt when they are spotting you and it shouldn't be too loose either because your intructor needs to be able to see your form to help you get better.

With shorts if you don't feel comfortable wearing shorts buy some leggings or spandex from wal mart or any other store like wal mart and wear them under your shorts that way you can still show your form for your instructor and hide your legs!

Your hair should be pulled back into a ponytail so it does not get in your way.

You sound like you know some basics but when it comes to what you are expecting at this first class it depends on a few things. If its a class you will all start with basics (lots of spotting and instruction, trampoline, wedges) so that you learn the correct form. If its a private lesson you can do whatever you want to and what your instructor thinks is best. Also if you are taking this class for cheerleading you will do mostly floor exercises (like learning round-offs and backhandsprings) as well as using the trampoline. If you are just trying out gymnastics you'll be doing uneven bars, vault, etc... but the very basics!

    Hope I helped!

Oh and don't wear ANY jewelry and usually you go barefoot (no shoes no socks) but some ppl prefer socks but you can slip and slide easily with socks so its a little dangerous

  4. if you don't feel confident wearing tight clothes then i suggest u wear a top that isn't revealing (boob wise) lol and that isn't to baggy and is not to loose. but if u get to a high level u Will have to wear a leotard(swimming costume kinda thing)

and wear say shorts or trackey bottoms.

wear your hair up the gym wouldn't like your hair to be down because when u are tumbling it will be in your face, it don't have to be all up say u can have a little bit of ur fringe down, i am sure that would be fine

and you might have to take jewellery out.

well good luck i am sure you will do fine :)
