Question:

Tummy time for 15 week old baby?

I've been trying to do tummy time for my 15 week old ever since shortly after he was born, but for the last few weeks, he just screams and cries every time I put him on his tummy. I think it's probably because he wants to look around, and he can't in that position. I try to get down on the ground with him and play with toys and such, but it doesn't seem to help. Anyway, has anyone else had this issue? I don't want to leave him crying, but at the same time I know he needs to strengthen his arms, head and everything. He does better when I put him on my stomach, and we play that way, but he doesn't seem to love that either.

  1. my baby is 14 weeks and just today i tried and yes I'm having the same trouble i guess is because of what you said that they want to look around and cant really see things from that position my baby slobbers a lot so when i do that i guess he gets uncomfortable because of the wetness....I'm gonna try when he's a lil older though

  2. Can't he hold his head up by now? If he can he should be able to look around. If he cannot hold his head up, then the tummy time will be good to help strengthen his neck muscles. Try using a boppy pillow or something like that to help raise him up. Good luck

  3. My 18 week old is the same way. She HATEs being on her belly since she was born. One way I help her get tummy time is by using a boppy. I put her face down on the boppy with her head and arms on the top of the boppy and she will tolerate this a bit longer. Lately she has been rolling from her back to her front and then starts crying because she is on her belly and can't roll back. Poor thing. I let her fuss for a little bit so she can keep trying but once she starts crying I pick her up. There really is not much you can do to let them like being on their belly. When the time comes, they will get use to it.

  4. this is normal, but try putting him on your stomach instead of the floor. they will only like it for 5 minutes at a time but keep trying he will get used to it soon enough.

  5. I lie flat of the floor and bend my knees and lay daughter on my legs on her stomach like she is flying.  I make lots of faces to keep her entertained and she stays up there for as long as my legs can take.  Watch out for drool!!

  6. Use a boppy pillow. They have slipcovers that have toys on the ends that he can look at and maybe try to grab. This way he isn't doesn't feel completely helpless laying flat.

  7. well my dd likes it much better if she is propped a little on the front end where she can see better, we use a boppy, put some toys and  a mirror in front of her and get down where she can see us too...but don't worry about it too much....i asked my ped about it, and he said that even babies that have no 'tummy time' will catch up pretty quickly when they are ready.....but she's only 12 weeks and already has a stronger neck and trunk, and we also play in the bumbo, (with very close spotting :)) and now she thinks she needs to sit up in EVERYTHING car seat included, LOL...and she can sit in the boppy and hold herself up for quite a while compared to a few weeks ago...i think it helps them get stronger faster, but i do believe my ped, i very much trust his opinion and have known him for years, and he wouldn't say something he wasn't sure about...gl
