Tuning the VOR/DME?

Question

Im flying in the 738 and in my nav display there is a VOR 1 with DME under it on the lower left, and VOR 2 with DME under it on the lower right. They are both blank. I want the DME to display my nm from my destinination, but before the VOR 1 showed YYJ and VOR 2 showed PAE. I want them to show SEA and SMF. How can I tune them? -I have to go to my GPS to see my nm, because I can't get them to display the DME

I am assuming you are talking about some sort of simulator game. I'm not sure how they have it set up, but in an aircraft there is a NAV panel near the COM panel. The NAV panel has switches that select which NAV aids you are sending the radio signal to. For example, if you select NAV 1 to send its info to the VOR insturment, then you tune the NAV 1 radio to the frequency of the VOR  transmitter that you wish to track. This frequency is documented on the flight map near the VOR transmitter, along with a 3 character identifier and the corresponding 3 character morris code --.,.-.,..- Something like that. To be certain that you are tracking the corect transmitter with your instrument you can patch the signal through to your audio and listen to the morris code pulse that is being transmitted along with the directional signal. It's complicated to exlain. Hope this helps.

if it shows wrong letters then it obviously needs to tune in into the proper frequencies ...of the proper crappy VORs like alexis wrote. if within the range, then the NM distance to VOR /not destination/ will be shown, together with bearing TO the VOR shown by the arrow

simple VOR navigation does not provide any calculations to imaginary points, you need to be RNAV capable to do such things, and have proper area navigation devices.

Firstly you have to get the freq for you new becons. Open your radio stack and you will see nav 1 and nav 2 chamge the freq to the ones you got for the new becons. Remember you have a standby freq so you might need to change it over.

Put your mouse on the k**b and it will show you a + or if you move it to the other side of the k**b ot will show a - click on it when it shows the +/- and the numbers will change. In the middle between standby and inuse the is a two arrowd pointer. Click on this to change over.

Most nav radios in MSFS require that you tune a frequency on the right side, and then press a button to swap it to the left side.  The frequency on the left side is the active frequency for the radio, and the frequency on the right side is the standby frequency.  To change frequencies, you always change the standby frequency and then press the button to swap it with the active frequency.  Com radios usually work the same way.

Well you need the thing to tune all that c**p to get your c**p showing in the crappy DME indicator, assuming the c**p VOR has a c**p DME coupled to it. Then you'll know how far it is to whatever place your c**p is going.

And remember, when all fails, read the manual. Or the online help. It's there for a reason.
