Tuning tv in

Question

We bought a cheap DVD player. It was working but the remote buttons were funny, so we tried our old remote out hoping it would work with the new DVD player. Since doing this we have lost all of our tv stations and cant tune them back in. Any ideas? I've tried everything I know. I think I am missing something technical.
