  1. Yeah, Been twice once to the Hotel Darkhayem in Hammett great place The Aqua park was bout a kilometre away, 2 golf courses bout 11 kilometres if you into golf there was even ice skating too (didn't go but alot of people said it was good.Food , hotel great. Then we went to the Hotel Hasdrubal in El Kantaoui loads of posh boutiques another golf course the Marina was the place to be, it was buzzing. Its great bartering with the locals for the carpets and silver wear.

The weather was fantastic only down fall we found is the constant peddlers selling their wears.

Go you'll have a great time

  2. TUNISIA IS AMAZING!!!

the weather is gorge all year round! iv been a few times and i would say stay in Port El Kantoui or Sousse. sindbad is a good name out there with a wonderful spa right next to the huge waterworld park..

    a little bit about it:

first of all you wont see many women or children. its a male dominated country but dont let this bother you as they are all very friendly.

the currency is Tunisian Dinar. u get around 45p for 1TD.. and 4TD can get u a pizza with chips! maybe more if u banter! alcohol is drank alot even tho its a muslim coutry and is very cheap

its a VERY cheap country. the people there earn around 10TD a week if you visit the non touristic places it will be a h**l of a lot cheaper.

Tunisia is a wonderful country- very beautiful but there are places that are.. well... african u might say!

taxi's are everywhere and never get in one without agreeing a price first.. 3 - 4TD will get u everywhere and if they say no then walk away and theyll soon shout u back!

its also a muslim country but even tho ur holiday rep will tell you to dress correctly it doesnt matter.

be aware of food, never ever buy raw meat as its culled on street corners and back yards with no refridgeration but its fine once cooked. the country is hustle and bustle in the centre and pick pocket children are rife- they will try to sell you flowers.

go on every day trip u can and especially fruiga park. also if you can speak a little french thats helpful as its their second language after arabic.

u will find alot of cafe's with men sat around drinking coffee liquor- women arent really welcome here as its our equiv of a job centre. men sit around waiting for work to come to them and it does!

skanes is not a nice place- nor is tunis the capital. stay north east id say. october is a good time too.

im due to go back again very soon, u will fall in love. its difficult to understand- u must go!

    any questions just ask me

  3. October is a very good time!! it's spring like weather and lack of excessive tourists, it is my favorite season.. I enjoyed Tunis, however i only went in the summer, very lively. i live in Sousse, it is great, great beaches, shops, people.. very fun.. i would even recommend a train trip to Tunis or from.. nothing quite like it. well that's the only places i can recommend as i have not been to others yet! just drove threw!

  4. No, never been.

  5. 1.) October is a nice time to come because the weather is nice and warm and there is plenty that you can do. And there will still be PLENTY of sunshine! :-)

The weather in October is still warm by day (no longer hot, but a very nice temperature), but starts to cool off by night. Most people wear shorts and short sleeve/sleeveless shirts during the day, but change into pants/jeans by night. The end of October is when the rains also start to come. We don't get a lot, but it does cool things off a bit.

Typically most people do not swim in the Sea later than the beginning - middle of October. This is because even though weather is warm during the day, the Sea temperatures have dramatically lowered and have become too cold to swim in.

You could check this site as it gets closer to your arrival day for up to date info:

    http://weather.yahoo.com/regional/TSXX.h...

You can click to see temperatures in Celsius or Fahrenheit. Since you didn't specify a city, I gave you the link for the whole country.

Weather Underground will search historical database for weather conditions in past years. The results will help you plan accordingly telling you how hot, cold, wet or windy it will be. http://www.wunderground.com/tripplanner/...

Another fun site to view is: http://www.weather2travel.com/climate-gu...

It gives the averages on different things from outside temperature to Sea temperature to hours of sunlight and more for different parts of Tunisia. Temperatures are listed in Celsius, but to view them in Fahrenheit, just hover your mouse over the temperature you would like to see. Again, I gave you the link for the whole country since you did not specify a city you will visit.

2.) Here is a short description of the most popular tourist destinations:

The Isle of Djerba is popular because of it's seclusion from the mainland, it's quiet and calm atmosphere, and the fact that one of the Star Wars set is on the island. Definitely a favorite for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of busy life and enjoy peace, quiet, great beaches, and nature.

Hammamet & Yassmine Hammamet (same city, but divided into two parts) is popular because it is calm, quiet, yet has a great nightlife and wonderful beaches.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

Sousse (a lot of people think of Port el Kantaoui) is great because it offers lovely beaches but is still very much a bustling city with lots of shopping, food, and fun. The famous authentic medina is a UNESCO site

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

Monastir is another popular destination because the city is very calm and quiet with gorgeous beaches, a few good restaurants, and is only 30mins from Sousse. It is particularly nice for those who want peace and quiet during the day but want to be close to good nightlife. The Ribat was used in filming Monty Pythons Life Of Brian, and the Italian Life of Christ. It is also the hometown of the first Tunisian president Habib Bourguiba.

Tunis- is the ancient ruins of the great historical city of Carthage. Tunis is also home to the North Africa American Cemetery. The medina is probably the most visited place in Tunis. It is marvelously preserved still enclosed by ramparts with gates for communication with the exterior.

Toezeur- you reach the Sahara desert. It is famous for the yellow bricks, and the palm tree forest in the middle of the desert. Parts of The English Patient was filmed here.

Some popular places to visit/take excursions to are:

Matmata- Is a UNESCO site - the houses are all underground! It is also one of the filming sites for the original Star Wars

El Jem- is the biggest and most in tact Roman coliseum in the world, and Gladiator was filmed there.

Oang Jamel- it is out in the middle of the desert, but it is here that one of the most famous Star Wars sets still stands. You can only reach this area with a 4x4 because of the washboard road, but more importantly because the winds blow the Sahara sands onto the roads and will get anything less stuck.

Kerkouane- UNESCO has placed this site on its list because it is the only Punic settlement not to have been built over by subsequent civilizations.

Kairouan- It is the most important Muslim city in North Africa. The most visited monument in Kairouan is the Great Mosque. It was first built in 670 by the famous conqueror, Okba ibn Nafaa under whom Kairouan became the capital of Arab-Muslim Ifryqia and the holy city of Islam. Kairouan is also known as the capital of carpet weaving in Tunisia.

Dougga- When archaeologists began the excavation in this town they were surprised to discover such a vast town buried under modern villages. The site contains temple and shrines, public squares, public bath and theater, private homes and funerary monuments of different rites.

Sidi Bou Said- Beautiful seaside town of white houses with blue doors and shutters. This town is situated on top of a cliff that overlooks the Bey of Tunis.

Here is a link to a question I answered that talks about things to do in select cities:

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

3.) The people are so warm and hospitable. They instantly welcome you as one of their own and treat you like family. Tunisians are very warm people and in my experience would give you the shirt off their back if you needed it, or even if you just liked it! If you ever were to get invited to eat at the house of a Tunisia, you would be treated like royalty! Tradition here is that the guest gets served the biggest and best portions of all food. Even if a family was on the poor side, they would do their best to prepare the best food that they could for their guest.

Tunisia isa very safe place. There are not many places in this world where a women can walk the streets alone in the middle of the night without fear. Yet I often take late night walks (around 11pm or so when I can't sleep) and have never had any problems and have never felt fearful. Tunisia on a whole is a very safe country. There is a joke here too the between a police officer and a police officer, you find a police officer. Believe me, it's safe. We also let our children run around the marina or the cafés and don't worry about someone kidnapping them because that just doesn't happen here. It is a terrific place to raise a family - amongst safety, security, love, kindness, etc.

Family is very important here - there are no homeless, although there are poor people. Everyone helps everyone else -neighbors bring food to each other, the poor can always count on someone giving them food and clothes, children are not expected to leave home as soon as they turn 18, etc.

Health care and education are also very big. The first president, Habib Bourguiba, made them top priorities when he was president. Every child MUST attend school or else their father gets in trouble with the law. You will not see cases of children being made to work to help support the family and letting their education fall to the wayside. Health care is also very affordable. 10TDN (it equals roughly 3GBP, 5EUR, or 7USD) is all it takes to go to the hospital. The national health care is also set up to absorb most of the cost for those who can't afford to pay it.

Women's rights is another thing that was implemented as soon as Bourguiba became president. Tunisia was one of the first countries in the world to give women equality to men, and grant them the right to vote. It was one of the first Arab countries to allow women to seek a divorce from a man on her own accord, to work outside the home, and give them education on family planning.

4.) Here's a question I answered that talks about the Tunisian currency and provides a link so you can see what the money looks like.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

EDIT@Hayley:  Where in the world did you get your information that you won't see many women and children? Women and children are more numerous than men, and especially during the summer, you find them everywhere! Maybe you should look at my pictures of Tunisia sometime.

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamie_hasse...

LOL@ Women not welcome at coffees! Coffees are NOT job centers - it is a place where people (men and women) go to relax and spend time with friends.

Hope this helped you. If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me.

  9. Dont do it !!! It was the worse hol i have ever had . We stayed at the iberostar hotel in  Skanes and there are security guards on the gates because you are warned not to leave the sites and the locals are forever in your face trying to flog you camels in return for children etc . Also there is always tummy troubles and sickness because cleanliness is not actually good ,i was so glad to have had my injections to ward of infection . I would never ever go there again .

  10. I have been twice, one in May and once in October. The weather was hot on both occasions but we had a fair bit of rain in October. We stayed near Sousse, and travelled down to El Jem, both were Great holidays.
