Tunisia beats Egypt 3-1 in Pool G - FIVB Volleyball Men’s Junior World Championship
The Caio Martins gymnasium in Niteroi, Brazil saw a Pool G match of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Junior World Championship being played between Tunisia and Egypt on Friday, 5th August. The four set match saw the Tunisians celebrate a 3-1 victory.
In the first set of the match the Egyptians come out strong and prevailed in bagging an impressive win. However, the Tunisians stepped up their game in the second set and gave the Egyptians a hard time keeping in control of the game. The loss of the second
set triggered the downfall of the Egyptian team that scored progressively less points in the third as well as the fourth set, signalling a Tunisian win at the following final set scores: 23-25, 25-21, 25-18 and 25-13.
The Tunisian coach, Mohamed Mounir Gara, expressed his feelings upon winning the match in the following words: “Tunisia was very focused on the match. The reception players are very good, but they didn’t show all their potential. We are at the same level
as Egypt, but I think today our concentration was better than Egypt's.”
On the other hand, the Egyptian coach, Mohamed Ellakany, gave the following statements: “We played well, very concentrated on the first set. We lost the focus on the game; our reception was very bad today. It wasn’t a good day."
The first set of the match reached an early tie at 6-6 but the Egyptians were able to move ahead by taking a lead at 8-6 which they were able to extend till 12-7. The Tunisians did not give up yet and closed in the gap at 18-17. However, the Tunisian side
made a couple of critical errors that pushed the Egyptians up at 24-19. The Tunisians were still determined to make a win but the Egyptians promptly bagged the opening set at 25-23.
Building on the momentum generated at winning the first set of the game, the Egyptians had the lead at 8-6 but the Tunisians did not let their rivals get too far and tied the score at 9-9 before overtaking Egypt by 11-10. After that point, the Egyptians
struggled all through until the Tunisians had sealed the deal on the second set at 25-21.
Tunisia started the third set with a lead of 8-2 but the Egyptians tied the score at 10-10 and went on ahead till 16-15. However, the Tunisian attack rained down heavily on the Egyptians, who could not put up an appropriate defence and lost the third set
at 13-25.
Racam Siala of Tunisia was able to tally the highest number of points among both the sides by scoring 21 points while the leading Egyptian scorer was Eslam Abou El Hassan at 20 points.
