Tunisia captures victory against Algeria in African Women’s Volleyball Championship
Tunisia worked out another 5-set fine victory against Algeria in their second match. Tunisian squad posted 3-2 (14-25, 25-12, 28-26, 26-28, and 15-12) victory over resilient competitor Algeria on Saturday, 16th October, 2010. The 13th
African Junior Women’s Volleyball Championship brought these two sides together. Tunisia got the extra advantage as they played the match in their own country. The women’s exciting event was kicked off in Tunisian city Tunis on Thursday, October 14 and it
continued till Sunday, 18th October, 2010. The championship was attended by 5 teams from Algeria, Egypt, Rwanda, Tunisia, and Cote d’Ivoire.
Tunisia met Algeria on the third day of the tournament and overcame strong side after a five-set thriller.
First Set
The early phase of the game portrayed a different picture. Algeria was on serve and they attacked with heavy shots. The wonderful start set a direction for the Algerian squad and they kept moving with good pace. The first technical timeout saw Algeria’s
rule in game, while Tunisia lagged behind in points’ run. Algerian hitters contributed quick points in their score and stretched their lead over the home-team. The local crowd was up for the support of their team but Tunisian players couldn’t bring a moment
of excitement for their people, at-least in the first set. Algeria jumped on the set-point and thrashed 25-14 brilliant victory in opening set.
Second Set
After dropping the first set, Tunisia tried hard to return in the game. The players learned from their mistakes and improved on the weak areas in second set. They were able to begin the second set with better serves. The score saw an improvement and the
team finally found its feet in the game. Tunisia gradually picked pace and brought more ferocity in attack. It seemed like ‘revenge’ was the order of the second set. Tunisian hitters found the rare gaps on Algerian side and directed the ball in targeted areas.
Algeria trailed behind in the scores after first technical timeout.
Tunisia’s team had attained the right rhythm and tone in the set. They moved fast and continuously added points in their score. The difference of points showed Tunisian dominance in game. The good display of volleyball action enabled Tunisian ladies to clinch
25-12 victory over Algeria in second set. They brought the game to an even point and fans cheered at them greatly.
Third Set
The equalizer in second set put a strong impact in the game but third set was surely going to be bruising encounter. The set started with heavy exchange of killing aces from both sides. The fired-up Algerian squad struggled to regain their commanding role
in the game but Tunisia had recovered from the shock of defeat and they pushed Algeria behind.
The score soared up quickly but game imitated a see-saw battle. Tunisian hitters confirmed their ambition for victory with a display of incredible play, while Algeria also availed every single opportunity to smash the ball. The score soared up with a close
difference and uncertainty prevailed on the scene. Finally, Tunisia made a difference and locked another victory by 28-26.
Fourth Set
Algeria lost another set in a row but the team didn’t lose heart. They challenged Tunisia in the fourth set. Tunisia wanted to put an end to the game by capturing fourth set but Algerian players didn’t allow them to take away the game so easily. They attacked
Tunisia with all what they had got and didn’t take any pressure. Algerian made a great come-back and won fourth set by returning same score of 28-26. The game prolonged and Tunisia was forced to play another set.
Fifth Set
The most influential set of the match started out with blazing shots. The fans were thrilled with superb volleyball action. The support of local fans and extreme effort enabled Tunisia to kick out Algeria at 15-12. Tunisia declared match victory but Algeria
also played its part to make it a memorable performance.
