Tunisia opened the 2010 Boys Youth African Nations Championship on a good note
The Boys Youth African Championship kick-started on Monday, 13th September 2010. The championship is especially organised to promote volleyball in the African region and it provides a great chance to the aspiring young players to grow their knowledge
about this amazing sport. The beautiful city of Cape Town in South-Africa is hosting the event this season.
The ice was broken by Tunisia and Algeria as they played the first match of this championship. Tunisia is defending the title this year and they opened the tournament with a straight victory. The team is enjoying the good form and has the potential to secure
the title for another year. They have been able to dismiss Algeria in the first match but there are more tough competitions ahead of them. Tunisia needs to keep up the same thrust in order to push others behind in the game.
Algeria is also considered one of the best teams in the squad. They captured bronze medal in 2008 Boys African Championship. The Algerian team seemed a little shaky this time around as they failed to put up a good fight against Tunisia and lost the opening
battle. Tunisia posted a 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, and 25-7) win over Algeria. Tunisia has posed a threat to other participants of the 2010 Boys Youth African Championship.
The detailed synopsis
In the general perception of people, Tunisia was a strong team equipped with skilful and experience players. It was an easy task for the defending champions to dismiss a team like Algeria. The match totally belonged to Tunisia from the
opening set to final set. Tunisia started the strike in the first set and easily managed to launch their authority over Algerian players. The Tunisian playmaker, Khaled Ben Slimane became the centre of attention for his excellent ball handling.
Tunisia produced nice floaters and received great applause from audience. The speedy spikes by Tunisian offensive players wrecked their opponent’s defence line. Algeria tried different combinations and struggled to raise their game. At one point, they attained
little stability but Tunisia disturbed the rhythm with their killing aces. The first set covered its length and ended with Tunisian success. The defending champion pulled off a first set win by posting 25-16.
The situation didn’t change in the following set. Tunisian top-guns came-up with a stronger attack in the second set. The Algerian faulty shots and double-contact balls worsened the scene. Tunisia easily picked up a lead and continued to put pressure on
Algeria. The Tunisian penchant to run and hit the ball in the right spots earned them points after points. Islam Quled Cherchali of Algerian side put a great effort by blocking Tunisian spikes and created a bit of a spark in the game.
Somehow, Tunisian attackers Ousama Mrika, Adam Oueslati and Elyes Garfi formulized the remedy for the trouble-maker and re-gained control over the ball. They quickly scored points and finished the second set by achieving 25-11.
The third set happened to be the final set as the Algerian fire was pretty much put out while Tunisia had the winning spirit to snatch another set from them. The Algerian side was hopeless after being defeated in the previous two sets. They failed to overcome
the fear of losing the game.
The Algerian players played the third set under huge pressure and they committed a lot of un-forced mistakes. On the other side of the net, the Tunisian team was on fire. They hit the ball with such power that most of their spikes passed through Algerian
players’ legs. Tunisia hit a couple of aces and pushed the Algerians into the dark. Algeria collapsed after scoring only 7 points in the final set. Tunisia successfully claimed the match victory in the opening match of the tournament.
