Tunisia scores its second win at 12th Al-Rashid Int’l Men’s Championship
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is hosting the exciting volleyball campaign from 8-13 October, 2010. The 12th Al-Rashid International Men’s Volleyball Champion is in full swing in Dubai. The championship invited six teams and host-country is also
on the board to fight for honour. Other than United Arab Emirates, the event is attended by Lebanon, Tunisia, Pakistan, Iran and India.
The home-team is up with a big challenge as the team is comprised of young players who are in the process of getting recognition. The team is strongly labelled as underdogs in this championship. They have played three matches so far but failed to give local
audience a chance of celebration. In the third match on Sunday 10th October, 2010, UAE played against Tunisia and lost the match in straight sets. Tunisian hotshots created a lot of buzz in the game and posted a score of 26-24, 25-13, and 25-13
to claim match victory. It was their third defeat in a row.
First Set
Tunisia came very strong on the struggling Arabs in the beginning of the match. They influenced hosts with powerful serves and damaged their defence line. The early lead provided Tunisia an extra edge to put pressure on them. Somehow, the home team battled
against visitors with great courage in front of local fans. The home crowd backed them and raised their voices in the support of UAE’s team. The uproar of fans enticed the team members to put more effort and fight for uplift. They valiantly defended the dodgy
spikes hit by Tunes and created a strong impression.
UAE used their best hitters against Tunisia and fought well. The score soared up with a close difference. Both competitors were trying hard to prove their steel against each other. The exchange of killing spikes prolonged the first set. The situation remained
un-decided until the ending moments. Finally Tunisian players put an end to the long tiring set with a convincing shot. They posted 26-24 and secured the first set.
Second Set
Despite a great effort and emotional support of fans, UAE lost the first set. Tunisia got the advantage and started more heavy strike. The home team was drafted under pressure and it affected their performance. They lost their grip on the ball and made too
many mistakes. The ball reception errors proved a disaster for the Arabs, while Tunes were in full control of the game. They hit the right areas and restricted UAE to a low score. The gap of points was increasing with every shot and Tunisia quickly covered
the length of second set. With the help of long under-hand shots and forceful spikes, Tunisia achieved the match point and ended the set 25-13. The humiliating defeat in the second set crushed home-team’s ambition and made them despondent.
Third Set
The hosts completely lost the rhythm after the loss of two sets. They seemed scattered and failed to put up a combined effort. On the other hand, Tunisian squad was thrilled to achieve another victory in the 12th Al-Rashid International Volleyball
Championship 2010. They easily built a lead in the third set with the help of strong hits. UAE’s players lost energy and played half-heartedly. Moreover, Tunisia added more oil to their injury and spear-headed to the victory in third set. The Tunes finished
the final set with same score and posted 25-13 to claim victory.
The home-team lost another chance and received an embarrassing defeat. The local fans left the venue with cold impression on their faces. Anyhow, the real enthusiasts of volleyball appreciated the great work of Tunisia and applauded them for a brilliant
show.
