Tunisia’s victory against Lebanon in Rashid Volleyball Championship
The two powerful rivals of the volleyball world, Tunisia and Lebanon clashed at the 12th Al-Rashid International Men’s Volleyball Championship, which ran from 8-13th October, 2010 in Dubai. The match was held on Tuesday, October 12,
2010. Tunisia outplayed Lebanon by posting 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, and 25-18) victory. The battle for supremacy continued for 81 minutes and finally ended in Tunisia’s favour.
Earlier on Monday, Lebanon defeated Pakistan in a long tiring match, which prolonged on five sets. Lebanon was in good shape to fight with the same momentum and prove their steel once again in match against Tunisia. Likewise, the competitor side was also
up for the challenge. They also had two victories in hand and energy level of Tunisian players was high. The fans surely expected a great show from the two teams. The match started and Tunisia knocked out Lebanon with a display of solid performance.
First set
Tunisia descended the court with a brilliant plan to dominate their rival team. Elyes Arramosli introduced the attack from Tunisian side. They started with an average pace but gradually geared up with delivery of swift spikes. The Lebanese side hit back
and attacked through Jan Abeshadeed. The game turned into a heated competition after the first technical timeout (FTT). Lebanon had strong hitters who had the potential to hit the ball with rocket-speed. It created huge impact in the game and Lebanon tried
to put pressure on Tunisia. Somehow, Ahmad Kadhi stood-up and blocked the Lebanese strike. He kept his eyes firm on the movement of players and threw his hands in air with perfect timing, to rebound the ball in the Lebanon’s court. Ahmad got much appreciation
for his superb work on the net.
Tunisia formed its grip on the game with a combination of good blocking and fast spikes. The score rose-up and team attained a solid spot. Lebanon put up good fight but couldn’t avoid the risk of defeat in first set. Tunisian players remained steady in their
shoes and clawed their way to the victory in opening set of the match. They closed the set at 25-19 and signalled Lebanon for a tougher combat in following sets.
Second Set
The fired-up Lebanese team hit-back in second set. They experienced a scare of defeat in the start but Abeshadeed supported his team and brought it out of blues. Lebanon smashed good shots and displayed an improved performance. Tunisia was also in very good
form and defended its position. The game progressed and exchange of killing spikes continued. The fans thoroughly enjoyed the great show of courage from both sides. Lebanon’s defence expert had a great task to penetrate powerful spikes of Tunisian hitters.
The score shifted up with an incredibly close gap. Tunisia embarked on an aggressive demonstration of attacks and stole points from Lebanon.
The second set covered its length and ultimately revealed Tunisia as the better side. Despite putting up huge effort, Lebanon remained unsuccessful and found Tunisia an impossible nut to crack. Tunisia extended the game score to 2-0 by winning second set
(25-22).
Third Set
Lebanon was in desperate need to deliver impressive performance and force Tunisia to play another set, in order to survive. On contrary, Tunisian squad had a different thing on mind, they wanted to quickly finish the third set and announce victory over Lebanon.
The clouds of uncertainty started roaming on the Lebanese team when Tunisia opened the third set in a classic style.
Tunisian team confirmed its ambition of victory by throwing the ball in Lebanon’s court with full power. Lebanon seemed to have lost momentum as they failed to stop Tunisia from raising score. Tunisia continued with success and took the score to end-line.
Tunisia waved a bye at Lebanon by capturing third set (25-18).
Lebanon lost the match but Jan Abeshadeed successfully earned the top-scorer’s spot. Jan was named star player of the game and organizers awarded him with the prize.
