Turallure and Wise Dan work for Lopresti at Keeneland for their 2012 debuts
Trainer Charles Lopresti is eyeing a comeback race for two of his trainees, who picked up their game considerably in the last season, Turallure and Wise Dan.
Both 5, Turallure and Wise Dan were sent out at Keeneland on 16 February, 2012, over the poly track to get things moving. Both horses were sent alone to cover a distance of three furlongs, which turned out to be an easy breeze for the duo.
They clocked their respective distances in 36 2/5 seconds over the poly track. “We just let them go an easy three-eighths to get started and we’ll bring them back in about seven to 10 days again,” Lopresti said.
Owned by Donna Arnold, the 5-year-old Kentucky bred son of Wando, out of mare Personal Allure by Wekiva Springs, Turallure is exiting a strong second place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile last fall at Churchill Downs, when he was beaten by Court
Vision on a turf course.
Prior to the Breeders’ Cup, Turallure, put together a sweet 2 race winning streak, where he won the Grade 2 Bernard Baruch Stakes at Saratoga on 26 August, 2011, going over a distance of 1 1/8 miles on turf.
He defeated the likes of Get Stormy in second and Baryshnikov in third, while covering the distance in 1 minute and 48.75 seconds.
The 5-year-old was then pointed toward the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile at Woodbine over a mile, which he won with easy, downing the dangerous Courageous Cat in second and Right One in third.
Morton Fink’s Wise Dan ended the 2011 season on a high by taking care of a star studded Grade 1 Clark Handicap field in style, defeating Mission Impazible and Flat Out to cover the 1 1/8 mile distance on dirt in 1 minute and 48.95 seconds.
Wise Dan also strung together a 2 race win streak at the backend of the 2011 season winning the Grade 2 Fayette Stakes and then the Clark Handicap, the former was run over 1 1/8 miles, but on the Keeneland’s synthetic surface.
Both runners are expected to wreak havoc in their respective divisions this year, especially the way they ended their 2011 season.
