Turallure’s seasonal debut could turn out to be a winning one in the Maker’s 46 Mile
In a field of seven older horses to compete in the Grade 1 Maker’s 46 Mile, a race which was last year called the Maker’s Mark Mile, two out of seven stand out and one feels that they will set the tone for a great competition come 13 April, 2012, at Keeneland’s
turf course over 1 mile.
Thomas M. Bush trained 6-year-old horse, Get Stormy has everything he needs to win the Maker’s 46 Mile, after all he did it last time around, but looking at Turallure and the way he closed out his 2011 season by winning the Grade 2 Bernard Baruch Stakes,
the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile, and missing the victory by a whisker to Court Vision in the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile last fall at Churchill Downs, it becomes a real dilemma to pick out today’s race winner.
Though, if we dig a little deeper and in such a close competition it is essential to dig out little advantages which may prove to be the difference in the end, and the big advantage or maybe disadvantage Turallure has that he hasn’t races for five months
straight, and he will be making his seasonal debut in the Maker’s 46 Mile.
Turallure has been made the 7 to 5 morning light favourite while the 12th placed Get Stormy in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile will be sent as the 9 to 5 choice.
The Kentucky bred son of Stormy Atlantic, Get Stormy has the advantage of running once in the new season, and winning as well.
He notched the Grade 1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap at about 1 1/8 miles on 11 February, 2012.
“That’s the big thing for us, just getting a race in him and getting started on what we hope is a big year,” said Charlie Lopresti, who trains Turallure for owner-breeder Four D Stables. “Of course we’d love to win. This is Keeneland, our home track, and
it’s obviously a prestigious race. But we’ve got a lot of great hopes for him the whole year. Hopefully I’ve got him ready. He’s working great, feeling good, I know that.”
The two favourites drew alongside each other, as Get Stormy will break from post number 5 under Ramon Dominguez and Turallure under Julien Leparoux from post number 6.
