Turbo Compressor bolted from start to finish to win the Carl Rose Classic Handicap at Calder
In the six horse field for 3-year-olds jockey Luis Saez guided his 3-year-old colt, Turbo Compressor, to an emphatic victory in the $ 150,000 Carl G. Rose Classic Handicap on Florida Millions Day at Calder racecourse for trainer Todd A. Pletcher.
P and G Stables and Off The Hook Racing’s Turbo Compressor took the lead from the start and started setting brisk fractions over the Calder racecourses’ dirt track as he covered the opening quarter mile in 24 seconds, went half a mile in 48.64 seconds and
for the 1 mile distance in 1 minute and 38.46 seconds.
The son of Halo’s Image, out of Dixieland Event by Wild Event, Turbo Compressor started pulling away from the rest of the pack when he acquired a one to two length lead, but in the stretch it was all Turbo Compressor as he stuck his neck out and bolted
toward the finish line.
The extra bit helped him leave the challengers way back, and nobody came even close to challenge his run as Turbo Compressor won the 1 1/8 mile event in 1 minute and 51.42 seconds on a fast track.
The 3-year-old colt, Turbo Compressor, won the Curlin Stakes this season at Saratoga on 29 July, 2011, under Javier Castellano over at 1 1/8 miles.
Turbo Compressor managed to defeat Raison d’Etat and Prime Cut who finished second and third, respectively, while in the process he covered the distance in 1 minute and 51.12 seconds.
Prior to the Curlin Stakes, Turbo Compressor raced at Monmouth Park racecourse to win the Grade 3 Pegasus Stakes, but unfortunately he finish third to winner Pants on Fire and runner up Concealed Identity over at 1 1/16 miles on 18 June, 2011.
The second choice for the race 3-year-old Florida bred colt Manicero sat in third for most of the race. He chased the favourite Mad Hatter and finally in the closing stages of the race, Manicero took over Mad Hatter to finish second as Mad Hatter finished
third.
The order of finish for the Carl G. Rose Classic Handicap was Decaf Again in fourth, Too Experience in fifth and The Best Glacier finished last in sixth.
