Turbulent Descent drew post number 3 and will head the Filly and Mare Sprint with the odds of 6 -5
The 3-year-old filly Turbulent Descent will head the 13 fillies and mares in the Grade 1, $ 1million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint on 4 November, 2011, at Churchill Downs when she was pegged as the 6 to 5 favourite.
Trainer Mike Puype had another reason to be over the moon when it was announced that Turbulent Descent will break from post number 3, which is near the rail and not a lot of trainers would like that but Mike Puype was happy that she got post number 3 in
the one turn event, and she will be ridden by jockey David Flores.
Apart from Switch and Pomeroys Pistol, who were pegged as 3 to 1 and 6 to 1 respectively, all other fillies and mares in the lineup were sent at double figures.
The daughter of Congrats, out of Roger’s Sue by Forestry, Turbulent Descent has had an impressive 2011 season. She has gone on to win thrice and finished as runner up twice in all of her 5 starts this season.
Her most important victory in the context of the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint was the Grade 1 Test Stakes, run over at seven furlongs on 6 August, 2011, at Saratoga under her usual jockey David Flores.
Turbulent Descent defeated the second choice for Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, Pomeroys Pistol and kept her honest throughout the race.
Blinkers on Racing Stable owned Turbulent Descent covered the seven furlong distance in 1 minute and 24.17 seconds.
She has also topped the 1 1/16 mile distance twice in her career, once as a juvenile, and once as 3-year-old filly in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks at Santa Anita Park on 5 March, 2011, with the winning time of 1 minute and 41.05 seconds.
She had two setbacks this season, once early this year in the Grade 1 Las Virgenes Stakes and the next in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes on 11 June, 2011. Both race were run over at a mile and she finished second on both occasions, Zazu and It’s Tricky being her
tormentors on both occasions.
