Turbulent Descent looks to put her leg over her opponents in the Grade 1 Test Stakes on 6 August
The Blinker on Racing Stable owned Turbulent Descent was the 3 to 5 favourite to win the 1 mile Grade 1 Acorn Stakes held at Belmont Park over on the dirt race course, but she lost on a sloppy track and might’ve entered a race with a distance she does not
prefer.
Longer distance and sloppy track, did not come in to trainer Mike Puype’s mind when he said there are no excuses for a favoured horse to lose a race, and quickly diverted his attention to the next target.
The next objective is the Grade 1 $250,000 Test Stakes on 6 August, 2011, run at a distance of seven furlongs, is more like the filly’s range and on such distance she has been very successful in the past.
Mike Puype praised It’s Tricky for defeating his filly in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes, and said she ran a wonderful race, but this time around in the cutback at seven furlongs and over a fast track, Mike Puype would be hoping that his filly does the job this
time around.
Daughter of Congrats, out of Roger’s Sue by Forestry, Turbulent Descent has had an unbeaten season in all of the 2010 season. She broke her maiden back in 3 October, 2010 over at a distance of six furlongs at Hollywood Park under David Flores as jockey.
She immediately won her first stakes race after her maiden in the Moccasin Stakes also run at Hollywood Park over at distance of 7 furlongs. Turbulent Descent finished with the final time of 1 minute and 23.15 seconds.
The major break came for her in the Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet Stakes at Hollywood Park over at a distance of 1 1/16 miles, first time in her career going a bit longer than usual.
However, the distance did not seem to matter as the filly bolted past her opponents to seal the year with an emphatic win on 11 December, 2010.
Turbulent Descent started off the 2011 season with a defeat to Zazu, who is also in the running for the Grade 1 Test Stakes, in the Grade 1 Las Virgenes over at a mile on 5 February, 2011.
The filly got her first win of the season at Santa Anita in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks, downing her rivals in emphatic style under usual jockey David Flores.
Her second win after the win at Santa Anita came at Keeneland over at seven furlong dash, where she contested in the Grade 2 Beaumont Stakes on 17 April, 2011.
The race was won with a final time of 1 minute and 26.12 seconds.
Trainer Mike Puype would be hoping for a little ambition in the seven furlong dash at the Saratoga sprint, to get her filly back on winning ways.
