Turbulent Descent parts with trainer Mike Puype and heads to her new home in New York
Trainer Mike Puype bids his farewell to her star filly, Turbulent Descent, because she will be moving to New York, and from now onwards will race under the banner of Coolmore Racing.
Bred in Kentucky, the young runner was previously owned by a partnership that included Blinkers On Racing Stable, William Strauss and Robert Butler. She was previously bought for $160,000 at the Ocala Breeders Sale in April, 2010.
The four-year-old will now be shipped to New York, where she will join the stable of renowned trainer, Todd Pletcher.
Mike Puype knew that the filly couldn’t stay under his wing forever, and had to part ways one day; he reflected on this and said:
“I knew it was coming to an end anyway,” Puype told the media “She was going to be sold (at auction) after a few more races but the owners received an offer they couldn’t refuse and that’s what needed to be done.  It came out of the blue. I didn’t know anything
about it until Friday. They closed the deal quickly and that was it.”
Over the course of her career, the daughter of Congrats notched seven victories out of eleven starts, six of those seven being victories in the stakes category. Under the training of Puype, the filly had a bankroll of $901,640.
Foaled by mare Roger’s Sue, the bay filly came out on top in her most recent start, when she defeated the Jeff Bonde trained, Izzy Rules, in the Desert Stormer Stakes at Betfair Hollywood Park on 17th June, 2012.
With the help of rider David Flores, she briskly covered the six furlong distance in 1 minute 9.25 seconds.
Reflecting on her best past performance, the former trainer did not hesitate and stated the seven furlong Grade 1 Test at the Saratoga racecourse was her best, where she covered the distance in 1 minute and 24.17 seconds.
Mike Puype stated that the young runner will be missed and it’s a difficult situation.
“She’s been nothing but good for everyone involved with her from the moment she first came to my barn.”
The next stop for Turbulent Descent might be the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes over the course of seven furlongs at the Saratoga racecourse on 24th August, 2012.
