I have recently moved into a new house with what could be a pretty good looking garden, however old tenents used a huge part in the center of the garden to have bonfires, so will grass eventually re-grow there or will i have to dig it over and start again?? If so what would be best? Also next doors garden is nothing but heavilly overgrown blackberry bush and its growing into mine, how do i stop this because the kids cannot have swimming pool out cos thorns come through

  1. Hello,

lucky you sounds like a great garden... as for the blackberry bushes ... its a case of introducing yourself to your neighbour and asking for them to cut back.. or telling them you will be cutting back on your side - which if it overhangs on to your side is LEGAL.

Then put a strong fence up to stop it happening again.

The bonfire spot will believe it or not be great soil as ashes do a lot of good for soil.....

so yes dig it over -- make it a game with the kids - cos when its dug.. you need to flatten it hard down for either turf or seeds .. so stomping all over it is best way to do that.

    have a great time...
