Turkey defeats Cuba 3-1 in Pool H of Women World Grand Prix – Volleyball news
With the Pool H match of the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Grand Prix taking place in Belgrade, Serbia, the Turkish side met with their Cuban counter parts on June 15, 2012.
It was the second match of the Pool and ended up with the Turkish emerging as victors by 3-1.
The scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 25-16, 20-25, 25-20 and 25-20.
The Turkish team was able to stay in control in the match owing to their strong defence and serving techniques whereas the Cubans could not master the errors they committed during the entire length of the match.
The coach of the Turkish squad, Marco Motta, expressed his joy at winning the match in the following words, “We have some ups and downs during the match, especially in the second set. I think in this moment my team is not at 100%, but I am glad that we managed
to fix some situations along the way and ultimately win.”
On the other hand, the Cuban coach Gala Rodriguez Juan, shared his views in the following manner, “I am not happy, my team made lots of errors in this match. In crucial moments we couldn’t deal with the pressure. Congratulations to Turkey, who is one of
the best teams in Europe.”
The superior defensive and serving skills of the Turkish helped them take the lead and stretch it till 16-7 in the opening set of the game. The Cubans could not get their act together and fell to making errors that made it all the more easy for the Turkish
squad to bag the first frame at 25-16.
The Cubans found themselves leading in the second set at 15-14 but Turkey managed to take the advantage for a short time before Cuba got it bag and went on to finish the frame on their terms at 25-20.
The third frame of the game went on fairly level for some time but the Turkish propelled themselves in the end to get hold of the frame at 25-20. The fourth set followed much the same pattern as the previous one with the Cubans eventually trailing behind
and the Turkish securing the frame at 25-20.
