The first match of Pool I of the third round of Women’s 2012 FIVB World Grand Prix was played on June 22 between Turkey and Korea. The Pool I matches of the tournament are currently being staged in Osaka, Japan.
The match between Turkey and Korea lasted for four sets at the end of which Turkey was celebrating its win. The score board showed the following final set scores: 25-18, 28-26, 20-25 and 25-13.
The recent win has enabled Turkey to tally a 6-1 record in the tournament while Korea has fallen to 1-6.
The coach of the Turkish squad, Motta Marco Aurelio, expressed his joy at the win in the following words, “In my opinion we played well, although in general we are a little tired with these trips, but its good competition. We can play better against Japan, and against Germany we’ll try to play our best.”
On the other hand, the Korean coach, Kim Hyung-Sil, shared his views by making the following comments, “In the qualifying match in Tokyo, we had some players injured, which was bad — but today our players did a good job, although they regret they couldn’t win. Now we will try to focus on our game with Japan. As our captain said, our serve and reception was bad, and because of that we lost concentration.”
Despite the fact that the Koreans lost the match, they found something to be proud of in the fact that the Korean player Han Song-Yi was able to score the highest points in match by tallying a score of 20 while the highest scoring player on the Turkish side was Neslihan Darnel with a total of 19 points. Darnel was helped by her teammate Eda Erdem Dündar who kept the pressure on the Koreans by adding 16 points of her own.
