Turkey defeats Serbia 3-1 in a Pool H match of Women World Grand Prix – Volleyball news
A Pool H match of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix – Women saw the Turkish squad contest with their Serbian counter parts. The match took place on June 17, 2012 in the Serbian city of Belgrade. Despite the fact that the Turkish were playing against raised
odds of being in the home ground of their rivals, they managed to win the match by 3-1.
The scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 25-21, 16-25, 25-22 and 25-21.
The match remained competitive for the most part with both the teams trying hard to gain dominance. It was only in the second set, which the Turkish lost; that the score was one sided, other than that, the two teams were able to play a fairly even game.
The head coach of the Turkish squad, Marco Motta, shared his sentiments at the outcome of the match in the following words, “I think we always have some quality matches, and it is a good rivalry. Technically, both teams are not on a very satisfying level,
but this time I think that physically we are in better shape than Serbia.”
On the other hand, the home team coach, Zoran Terzic, expressed his views by giving the following statements, “Congratulations to Turkey for everything they showed in this tournament. We played like we did in Poland, we showed the best game in the third
match, except we didn’t win this time. The biggest problem for us, however, isn’t our game, but injuries that are accumulating.”
The opening set of the match started with a Turkish lead early that compelled the home team to put in an increased effort in the frame. The Turkish were able to stretch their advantage but the Serbians did not give up and were able to close in the gap. However,
Turkey managed to bag the first frame at 25-21.
The home team got charged up in the second set and were able to bag it by a comfortable margin. However, that was the only frame that Serbia could get their hands on as the Turkish did not relent in the third and the fourth set and secured them at 25-22
and 25-21 respectively.
