Turkey defeats Thailand 3-1 in final round of World Grand Prix – Volleyball news
The second match of the final round of the World Grand Prix saw Turkey and Thailand play against each other in the Chinese host city of Ningbo on Wednesday, June 27, 2012. The venue of the competition was the Ningbo Beilun Gymnasium which was filled with a total of 2000 spectators. It took the Turkish squad an hour and 46 minutes to make the match reach its close by making a win over Thailand at 3-1.   
The score board showed the following final set scores: 25-22, 25-21, 20-25 and 26-24.
The coach of the Turkish squad Motta Marco Aurelio shared his views about the performance of his team in the following manner, “I am upset about our performance, we have only two players play at their normal level. This is our first game in the finals, we need to play better, we need our best performance for the finals. I hope we could play with more attention tomorrow.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Thai team, Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, expressed himself by making the following comments, “This is not our best performance. I wish Turkey good luck for next game and also the Olympics Games too.”
The player who was able to earn the title of the top scorer of the match by tallying 27 points was Neslihan Darnel of Turkey while Neriman Ozsoy helped her team mate Darnel by putting up 14 points for her side.
The win has enabled Turkey to gather a total of three points in the final round of the championship whereas Thailand, having won not a single set, scored zero.
The first set took off with a Thai lead at 6-2 but Turkey was able to close in the gap at 17-16 with the match eventually reaching a tie at 22-22 and the Turkish later sealing the deal at 25-22.
The second set saw the Turkish take the lead by the coming of the first technical time out at 8-4 but then fell to making errors that gave Thailand the chance to level the score at 14-14. Before matters could get out of hands, Turkey was able to rally together and got to a lead of 21-18. Thailand could do nothing much as Turkey marched ahead towards another win at 25-21.
With two sets down, Thailand came out strong in the third frame and took the lead at 6-2 but Turkey did not let them get too far and was able to make the frame reach a tie at 12-12 and eventually got the lead at 18-14. However, Turkey committed several errors that cost them the loss of the set at 20-25.
Turkey did not lose hope and played well in the fourth set but Thailand also provided a significant challenge. However, it was Turkey that secured the frame at 26-24.
