Turkey manager Guus Hiddink to make a move to Chelsea for £4 million
It appears like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Turkey-c3026 national coach Guus Hiddink will take up the manager’s post at Chelsea after all, the latest statement by the Turkish FA seemed to confirm his departure.
The Turkish FA representative said while speaking to reporters:
“Hiddink says he has a contract but these promises don't have value. Chelsea is too good an offer to turn down and the Federation understands this.
Hiddink feels he still has a job to do there; he wants to work every day, and win Championships and maybe the Champions League.
We will understand that he has coached his last Turkey game as long as Chelsea pay the compensation.”
The English Premier League side are on the look-out for a manager after they sacked Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season.
The former AC Milan coach failed to deliver any silverware this season, which is why Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich decided to replace him.
Despite a host of top European managers linked with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 hot-seat, Guus Hiddink eventually emerged as the favourite.
The likes of Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Marco van Basten, Harry Redknapp, Marcello Lippi and Andres Villas Boas were linked with the London club.
However, Hiddink remained first choice despite the fact that he was in charge of the Turkey national team.
The Dutchman led Turkey into the 2012 Euro qualifier against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 on Friday, which ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw.
After the match Hiddink admitted he was considering taking up the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 at Stamford Bridge and hinted at an exit.
Having previously managed Chelsea, Hiddink is still a favourite with the Chelsea supporters and is a friend of Abramovich’s.
He first took over the Blues in the 2008-2009 season as a care-taker manager, replacing the sacked Luiz http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Felipe-c13510 Scolari.
With just three months remaining in the season and the out of forms Blues resigned to a trophy-less season, Hiddink did well to lead them to a FA Cup trophy.
His minor success with the Blues, while still managing the Russian national team, had established him as one of the greatest managers Chelsea have had in recent times.
Many Chelsea fans expected Abramovich to retain Hiddink for the next season, however the Russian billionaire appointed Carlo Ancelotti instead.
The 64-year-old has the experience and capabilities to handle the Chelsea squad, which is made up of big names.
While Ancelotti did a fairly decent job, he could not manage to keep all the players happy, especially after the January transfer window.
If Hiddink takes over, he will be expected to do much better than his Italian predecessor. However, before that can happen, Chelsea will have to pay £4 million in compensation.
While Chelsea have not made an official move for Hiddink, the Dutchman is expected to complete the move to Stamford Bridge in the next few days.
