Turkey national side manager Guus Hiddink denies rumours of a return to Chelsea
Guus Hiddink, the former Chelsea caretaker manager and current Turkey national team coach, insisted he was focused on his current job.
The Dutchman is among the many managers being linked with taking over the manager’s job at Stamford Bridge after Carlo Ancelotti was sacked.
The Italian boss was sacked moments after the last game of the season ended, a 1-0 loss to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 at Goodison Park.
That has led to speculation linking almost every other manager with replacing Ancelotti at the hot-seat at the London club.
Hiddink is apparently Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s first choice to take the manager’s job, having done extremely well during his time as caretaker.
The 64-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge in the middle of the 2008-2009 season after the unexpected sacking of Luiz http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Felipe-c13510 Scolari as a favour to Abramovich.
While simultaneously managing the Russian national team, Hiddink managed to lead an out of form Chelsea to a FA Cup trophy.
During his time at Chelsea, Hiddink earned the respect and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Love-c22466 of the players and the supporters, who called for him to be signed on a more permanent basis.
He was replaced two days after the last match of the season by Carlo Ancelotti.
Hiddink revealed he was determined not to let the past repeat itself, promising to focus on the Turkey national team for now.
Hiddink said while speaking to reporters:
“I have told the players they must focus on Belgium and the same goes for me. I am fully focused on getting the team ready for next Friday.”
The Turkey national side travel to the Koning Boudewijn Stadion in Belgium on 3rd June, for the group stages of the European Championship qualifiers.
According to Hiddink, he did not wish to think about the future and wished to give the Turkey side his undivided attention ahead of the crucial fixture.
The Dutch coach insisted he was currently focused entirely on the leading his side to a win against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850, he continued:
“I have in my career very few games. I want to do more with the players on a daily basis but that is impossible because I am national team manager.
But I am not going into the speculation as I have to prepare the team and to make sure that no one can blame me afterwards saying I was concentrating on other things.
I am not going into speculation, I am fully concentrated. I demand full commitment from myself so I will not go into speculation.”
Unlike when he was in charge of the Russian national side, Hiddink cannot take up another managerial http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 while managing the Turkey national team.
His contract prevents him from doing so and having always honoured his contract, there is not even the slightest possibility of Hiddink leaving his current job.
However, if he is sacked, for whatever reason, there might be a possibility of him joining the Blues in the summer.
That depends entirely on how http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Turkey-c3026 perform in the European competition. From his previous record with national sides he is expected to do well.
He started his national managing career with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753, leading them to the 1998 World Cup semi-finals.
His next stop was South Korea, who finished fourth in the 2002 World Cup. He went on to repeat his success with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Australia-c746 in the 2006 World Cup.
When the Dutchman took over the Russian team, he led them to their best ever finish since the 1980’s, while managing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 at the same time.
