Turkey sweeps Japan in a Pool C match of FIVB World Grand Prix – Volleyball news
The opening match of Pool C of the FIVB World Grand Prix – Women saw a match held between Turkey and Japan on June 8, Friday.
The Turkish squad reminded Japan of the loss handed out to them by Turkey at the Olympic qualifier matches recently as Turkey was able to win the FIVB match by making a clean sweep over its opponents. The pool play of the tournament is currently being staged
in Busan, Korea.
The first set of the match was secured by Turkey by a comfortable margin but the Japanese started giving their rivals some challenged in the second set. Despite the effort, the Japanese were not able to earn the frame and went on to loss the third one in
a similar fashion. Therefore, the score board showed the following final set scores: 25-19, 25-21 and 25-21.
The coach of the Turkish squad, Marco Aurelio Motta, shared his happiness at the win in the following manner, “I think most teams are not in perfect condition in the first week of the World Grand Prix each year. There are always small problems such as injury
or player changes at the beginning, but the teams will be getting better as time goes by. Our performance is not quite as good as I expected, but overall I am satisfied with this match.”
On the other hand, the Japanese coach Masayoshi Manabe, made the following statements at the press conference conducted after the match, “I am very sorry that we lost the game in three straight sets today. However, I was able to have the chance to have many
different players play, which was something I could not do before. In this sense, I think the game was meaningful.”
The Japanese player Saori Sakoda gave her team something to be proud of by being the highest scorer of the match and tallying 15 points. On the other hand, the most active player on the Turkish side was Gozde Sonsirma with 14 points.
Next in line for the Turkish squad is a match with the home team that will take place tomorrow while the Japanese will be contesting with the Cubans.
