Can you use any coffee bean from the grocery store to grind into Turkish Coffee, or do you need a special type?

  1. Turkish coffee has the consistency of powder. And this is it's most prominent character.

    You can buy any espresso brand or any bean and give it an extra minute in the mill. That's what I do if I cannot find a Turkish brand. But I do this as a last resort because I think, even if you buy a good quality coffee bean, it just doesn't taste the same as Turkish coffee.

    But of course, if you live in a European country where you can easily find Turkish coffee brands (like in Belgium or the Netherlands or Germany) then just don't bother and buy a Turkish brand.

    EDIT: O.K I made a search  and learned that Turkish coffee is made by using beans of Coffee Arabica from a variety of coffee producing countries, but a majority of Turkish coffee beans have been imported from Brazil.

I would not use an espresso.  If you were to take the beans roasted for espresso and for turkish coffee and smell them you would notice a difference right away.  You are not going to get the same taste at all.  Since getting my coffee grinder I've been looking for the beans but have not had any luck.

  3. to make good turkish coffee, you should use speciel turkish coffee beans.  you can buy this in any midldle eastern grocery or use arabica coffee beans.  that will be good strong coffees

  4. Depends how strong you want it.

    If you like superstrong get a dark roast ie. Espresso, French Roast, Vienna Roast.

    If you like a strong brown roast try Mocha Java.

    If you just like regular roasts, Colombian is good for the money but there are several.

    Most people that shop our store that grind their coffee on the Turkish setting buy Espresso.

    basically Turkish coffee is a dark well roasted bean. Espresso is more or less what they use.80% of the coffee beans grown are Arabica.

    There's no mystery here.

    The secret is to pulverize the beans( using the last and finest setting in a good commercial grinder). That's the real secret to Turkish coffee.The beans should look like cocoa powder after they're ground.

    If a person finds it to strong( which it is) they can use a lighter roast.
