Turkish Grand Prix 2011: Raceday - Formula One Highlights (Part 1)
Bettor.com welcomes you to the highlights of the Turkish Grand Prix from the Istanbul Park circuit. Heading into Round-4 of the 2011 Formula One Championships, Sebastian Vettel sits pretty at the top with a healthy 21-point lead over McLaren driver Lewis
Hamilton in 2nd position.
Qualifying in pole, the talented young German looked set to continue his early season form into the weekend. Starting next to him was his teammate Mark Webber meaning that signs looked healthy for the Red Bull team in the constructor’s championship as well.
Behind the leading duo, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton made up the second row. Seeing as Hamilton is known to be a maestro at starts it would be second nature to him to look for any mistake made by the Red Bulls at the start.
Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button found themselves starting from the third row while Vitaly Petrov and Michael Schumacher made up the fourth. Nick Heidfeld and Felipe Massa formed the rear end of the top ten starting positions
Timo Glock in the Virgin Racing was the only driver not to start the race.
With respect to the action from the practice and qualifying sessions, the track at Istanbul Park has proven to be a challenging one. The long sweeping corners in the latter part of the circuit allow for some great overtaking opportunities; all of these constituted
to an exciting a hour and a half of racing pleasure.
Conditions were perfect for racing. The forecast was primarily sunny for the better part of the race with an occasional overcast sky but importantly, there was no chance of rain - With Mother Nature out of the picture, it all came down to a sound pit strategy
and accurate racing on track to withstand the Istanbul test.
It is often stressed upon as to which side of the track one starts the race. The dirtier part is usually the one lined with rubber from past action which gives better grip - All this added to an exciting start of the race, no matter where you qualify, there
is always a chance heading into turn 1.
To be continued in part 2...
