Turkish Grand Prix return depends on government – Formula 1 news
Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED) have stated that they have confirmed the agreement to hold a race in Turkey in the 2013 Formula 1 season, but it requires a final approval from the government.
The Annual General Assembly of FIA has been going on in Istanbul, Turkey so as to discuss the return of the Turkish Grand Prix in the next season and everything has been finalised except the authorization from the government.
Meanwhile, the president of TOSFED, Demire Berberoglu has said that he earnestly hopes to host an F1 grand prix in Turkey in the coming years.
Furthermore, he said that they are working very hard to organise the race event in their country on regular basis for which they recently had a meeting with the chief executive officer of F1, Bernie Ecclestone.
“TOSFED is endeavouring to bring a race back to our country [next] year and in the coming years, having so far held seven races at Istanbul Park,” Berberoglu said in a statement on the TOSFED website. “Yesterday Mr Vural Ak - the operator with the Istanbul Park circuit - had a meeting with Formula One rights holder Bernie Ecclestone.”
In addition, he said that they know very well about all the pre-requisites of organising the race event and are positively looking forward for F1 return in Turkey in the coming season. Besides, he said that they will try their best to get the necessary approval from the government. He also said that the final decision in this regard will be made by their prime minister.
“Everybody knows that what is needed for its presence in the Formula One race calendar for 2013 and following years is a guarantee and approval of the required budget at the government level. This will develop according to the prime minister's decision,” he added.
On the other hand, Ecclestone is also working hard to take the sport to new destinations and is aiming to add up more races in F1 calendar. Additionally, the 82-year-old has recently expressed that he has no plans to take retirement and has a lot ideas to pursue.
