Turkish Names..Towns..?

Question

I would like to ask the greek people in the forum is you know any town or city or village that is still or was once knowing by its turkish name during the turkish occupation..if any one does know of any can you putt he modern version of the town village or city then the turkish one please: for instance where i come from in southern messinia there WAS A TOWN CALLED (GIA PA PI) IN TURKISH NOW ITS CALLED EVANGELISMOS...

Giapapi isn't Turkish. But friends had given examples of Turkish names in Greece before.

It seems nobody is inclined to answer. I'm sorry for that. Why don't you search questions with the phrase "Turkish names in Greece"? I did it and found old discussions about the subject. There are some worthy answers, too.

it's probably derived from "gia our"  or "gavur" in turkish we use this word for non-muslims its still used in rural areas mostly  

i was born in one of them so i'll give you just one example

you're called "chrisoupolis" and we say "sarisaban" in turkish

two of them is similar in one way your word means "the city of gold" ours is  "yellow" as a color

For example Alexandroupoli (meaning "the city of Alexander") in Thrace was called Dedeagac until 1919 if I remember correctly and it was renamed in honour of King Alexander. Some of the places were re-renamed to what they were called before they were occupied by the Ottomans.

Another example is the forest of Sheikh Sou in Thessaloniki which retains its turkish name. (I know you asked for a town, but it's the first example that I thought of)!
