Turkish coach shows dissatisfaction over his team’s performance – Volleyball News
Turkey women’s national volleyball team defeated Thailand in the Final Round Opener of 2012 FIVB World Grand Prix, but the Head Coach Motta Marco Aurelio seemed dissatisfied with the overall performance of his team.
Motta was asked to make remarks about the match, where he revealed: “I think both teams played not good today, we can play a better match. I am upset about our performance.  We have only two players play at their normal level. This is our first game in the finals, we need to play better, we need our best performance for the finals. I hope we could play with more attention tomorrow.”
He stressed that Turkey’s success was majorly credited to Neslihan Darnel and Neriman Ozsoy.
Clad in No. 17 jersey, Darnel demonstrated an incredible action on the net. She led the team in front row and notched up match-high 27 points. She added 21 spikes on 44 attack attempts and contributed 5 blocks via 13 attempts. She proved the steel of her forearms and hit unstoppable shots and also stood like a concrete wall in the way of Thai hitters.
Likewise, Ozsoy contributed 14 points in Turkey’s score. They were the only players in Turkish team, who went into double-figure score. Rest of the team members displayed an average performance, which cause dissatisfaction for the coach.
The skipper of the Turkish squad Esra Gumus also admitted that the players did not play a normal game and committed too many unforced mistakes.
However, her Thai counterpart Vilavan Apinyapong had a bit of different take on the match. She said that Turkey played well and deserved to win. She praised Turkey’s strong offence and solid defence. At the same time, Apinyapong expressed frustration about her team’s performance.
Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, the head coach Thailand, had the similar opinion. Nonetheless, he congratulated Turkey for a good start in the final round and wished good luck for next match and also the Olympics.
Turkey and Thailand met in Final Round match of 2012 FIVB Grand Prix on Wednesday. Turks posted 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 26-24) on board to win the match. Ningbo Beilun Gymnasium in Ningbo, China hosted the match, while 2,000 spectators witnessed the action.
