  2. Most of the visitors come from North America and speak American English, although there are quite a few from Quebec speaking Canadian French. Yesterday I just happened to land at Providenciales on an international flight and was surprised at the number of Italian tourists on the plane. There are relatively few British visitors because of the cost of travel and the lack of packages to cut the cost of accommodation and such Brits as do come as tourists tend to be staying with friends and relatives. On that basis, one could say that there are tourists from all over the world, as there are huge numbers of expatriate workers in the islands, most of whom receive visits from time to time.

The official language is English, but wandering about the place you will hear an enormous amount of Creole, spoken by the thousands of Haitians, and Spanish, which is the language of the many people from the Dominican Republic living and working there. Another language heard more and more is Filipino, as increasingly large numbers of workers come from the Philippines.
