Turks fail to break the winning streak of Bulgaria – Volleyball News

Turkey women’s volleyball team fell to Bulgaria 0-3 (18-25, 22-25, 18-25) at the Complexe St. Symphorien Metz in France on Thursday.
It was the first match for Turkey and Bulgaria in the final leg of the 2012 CEV European League Prelims. Success moved Bulgaria to 10-0 in the tournament, whereas Turkey shifted to an overall win/loss record of 4-6.
Bulgaria’s Elitsa VASILEVA notched up 12 points and settled for the top-scorer’s position in the match. For Turkey, Gözde YILMAZ fought a great battle and scored 10 points. Overall, they were the only two players in the match, who went into double-figure
score.
Bulgaria opened the match on a good note and jumped to two-point lead at the first technical timeout. VASILEVA served with great accuracy and precision, which helped the team to put pressure on the rival side. Turkey’s Buse put up good effort in receiving
the swinging shots from other side of the net. However, the gap of points stretched out at the next timeout. Bulgaria rallied from 8-6 to 16-12. Turk ladies tried different tactics to overcome the opponents, but all their effort went futile. Bulgaria closed
the opening set with fair margin of seven points, 25-18.
Turks managed to take lead in the early few minutes of the second set, but it was a short-lived phenomenon. Bulgaria regained power and pushed the Turks behind the attack line. Once Bulgaria picked up lead, the Turks could not find a way back in the game.
They trailed behind, while Bulgaria achieved set points and extended its lead to 2-0 in the match.
Bulgaria dominated throughout the third set and finally hit the mark with match points at 25-18.
Winning Coach Bulgaria, Marcello Abbondanza, praised the brilliant feat of his team and congratulated them for victory. Speaking of the match, he stated: “By this time we are trying to save energy for the final four and we are testing all of our players
and options. It was a good game, Turkey is a young but good team.”
Likewise, his Turkish counterpart Edma Gökhan also had his say about the match. He said, “We made many stupid mistakes; we have a young group and hence they still have their ups and downs.”
Next up, Turks are scheduled to take on hosts France in the second match of the final leg. This is going to be another tough challenge for Turkey as the home squad is enjoying a great form. On the other hand, Bulgaria will be challenged by Switzerland that
poses no fear on Abbondanza’s ladies.
