Turallure finishes fast after a late surge to out finish favoured Get Stormy in the Bernard Baruch Handicap
Turallure runs down the highly favoured Get Stormy to pick up his first graded stakes victory of his career in the later stages of the race to win the $202,000 Grade 2 Bernard Baruch Handicap at the Saratoga grass on 26 August, 2011.
The 4-year-old colt trained by Charles Lopresti for owner Donna Arnold could not make up ground in his previous race the Grade 2 Fourstardave Handicap also on grass at Saratoga, and let Sidney’s Candy get away with moderate pace.
Turallure was a distant 5th in the Grade 2 Fourstardave Handicap on 31 July, 2011.
The Fourstardave Handicap was run at 1 1/16 miles, but maybe Turallure was looking for faster fractions and added distance to get his mojo running, and that’s exactly what he got in the Saratoga fixture on 26 August.
Thomas Bush trained 5-year-old horse Get Stormy was looking to defend his title in the Bernard Baruch, and got into the lead right from the outset, half mile in 48.45 seconds and completed the three quarters in 1 minute and 12.45 seconds in the 1 1/8 mile
event.
When the field of eleven turned for home, Get Stormy under Ramon Dominguez was leading the pack, but Turallure mounted by Julien Leparoux came off the face in a late surge, and spurted past Get Stormy in the dying stages of the race and registered a 2 ¼
length victory on a course labeled good.
The son of Wando out of Personal Allure by Wekiva Springs, Turallure, improved his record to 5 wins, 2 second place finishes and 3 third place money finishes out of 14 starts altogether and he earned $120,000 to shoot up his lifetime earnings to $294,045.
Get Stormy, on the other hand, has had a fantastic season with two back to back Grade 1 wins this season and apart from that, three times finishing on the money, giving the son of Stormy Atlantic pretty good stats for the 2011 season so far.
The back to back grade 1 wins were in the Grade 1 Maker’s Mark Mile at a mile on turf at Keeneland and the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic at 1 1/8 miles at Churchill Downs.
