Turning Stone Resort Championship; Alex Cejka takes the lead
Alex Cejka has taken a lead of 10 under 68 at the second round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship followed by Chris Tidland and Rory Sabbatini.
The second round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship concluded on Friday at Atunyote Golf Club in Verona, New York. The event of purse $4million started on 2nd of August and will wind up on 8th of August 2010.
Alex Cejka the Czech c*m German fought the strong winds with a speed of 30mph and birdied the 5th and the 8th hole of the front nine. Although, he started with a very low morale because of the early bogeys, but down the lane he picked up few low numbers and finished the round with an aggregate of 68. Alex Cejka finished with 66 on Thursday, by hitting 12 fairways and 16 greens.
According to Alex Cejka, he was satisfied with his performance, despite the fact that he had a better score in Thursday's round. The only reason behind the fluctuation of scores was the bad weather that was prevailing on Friday. Even then Alex managed and hung on, till he delivered 4 birdies on the back nine.
This is the first victory for Alex Cejka ever since 1996 when he started his PGA tour. He has taken part in 227 events, but has managed only 24 top-10 finishes. However he was the runner-up at the International 2004 and finished second with a tie up, at the B.C. Open 2003. Alex Cejka has either shared or pursued lead after two rounds for four times in his career, which includes the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am 2010; he was tied for the 10th position at the Pebble Beach.
However, according to the experts Alex Cejka has been performing very well in last two months, although he was struggling the last two weeks when he missed the cut at the WGC-Bridgestone invitational 2010. Alex has held on to patience and the right amount of aggression during the two rounds at the 7,482-yard Atunyote Golf club. There are possibilities that a foreigner might be victorious in four-year history of this event.
Moving forward to the next top players of the leader board Chris Tidland and Rory Sabbatini, both are tied at 9 under for the second position. Chris Tidland has posted a 69 whereas Rory Sabbatini had a 70 in the second round. Tidland is one of the 24 players who could not complete his round on Thursday because of a weather delay. However he started off with a bogey but wrapped up with 7 birdies.
The 37-year-old Chris has not got a spectacular record, although he got tied for the 6th position at the 2007 AT&T Classic, which also happens to be his best finish on the PGA Tour. At another place he finished with a tie up for the 18th in 2007.
As far as Rory Sabbatini is concerned, he delivered few late birdies at the 16th and 18th hole. However his shot for the 18th hole was spectacular. His ball from the 18th tee got stuck in the green side bunker, in order to get it out, Rory Sabbatini smashed a 2 feet putt and it turned out to be a birdie.
The next top 4 players were Robert Garrigus, Omar Uresti, Brian Davis, Woody Austin, Steve Elkington and John Mallinger. They finished with a 7 under. On the whole 72 players were over par including Brent Delahoussaye as well. However the lowest score of the day was delivered by Brenden Pappas, who shot a 66 and is tied for 38th position with 3 under.
To wrap it up, the second round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship has finished at the Atunyote Golf Club in Verona New York with Alex Cejka in the lead with 10 under followed by Chris Tidland and Rory Sabbatini with 9 under. According to the experts, the overall game went well, despite the bad weather conditions which produced 72 over pars which happens to be a huge number in a tournament.
