Question:

Turning a WI-FI signal into a WIRED connection?

I have hi-speed wireless internet running through a NetGear wireless router internet connection, but my Playstation 2 is in my bedroom (too far from my router for a wired connection) and I want to know if this...

Is there a device that pulls in my wireless signal and converts it into a wired internet source to plug in my Playstation 2 from there?

  1. yea... a second wireless router will do it. connect the two routers wirelessly, then you will have wired lan ports on the back of the router to plug the PS in with.

  2. unfortunately not that i'm aware of. If you wanted to play ps2 on line you have to move it as close to your router as possible and hook it directly up to it. Make sure if you do this you have the ps2 adapter so you can plug the cords in. If you get the newer, thinner ps2 it comes with it but the older ps2s need the adapter which i don't think sell anymore. I hope this helps.

  3. If you already have a wireless router, then the easiest thing to do would be to buy a wireless access point, or buy a cheap wireless router that supports an access point.  if you buy the router option, make sure that you disable the DHCP functionality.  that will cause conflicts with IP adresses, and thats not good.  good luck!

  4. Yeah there are several devices. Linksys makes the:

    WEP54G

    WGA11B

    WGA54G

    WGA600N

All of which take in Wireless and put out wired. I used a WGA11B to take my neighbors connections for almost a year and reroute it through my own router. Despite that they are Game adapters, their manuals say they can be used for this.

  5. You could buy a wireless access point, something like a D-Link DWL-2100AP (or a bit newer) which would pick up the wireless signal and then you could run an ethernet cable from this to the PS2.

  6. A wireless receiver will do this. BUT, it will not give you the speed of a wired connection because there is a wireless signal involved. You need to buy a really long wire to run to your BR.

  7. go to radio shack and get a wireless network converter, it plugs into a USB slot, and that should work
