  1. What the World Wildlife Federation is trying to do is to raise awareness through this global effort. Considering last year they only did it in Sydney, Australia and now it has become global.. I'd say it's having a huge impact. Perhaps if you read up on it, you might see it in a different light:

While I applaud your recycling and over-fishing ideas, anything that causes the awareness to be raised is going to help save our planet.

  2. Russians a sending some billionaire to the space station for a space walk holiday who doesn't like too many bright lights from earth, it will spoil his fantasy of a clean earth. If they told you its for some rich fool, u wont turn off your lights but if they say its for the environment then every one will jump to it. Once it was simon says, now its telivision says

  3. Ok Paul, kill yourself and save the world. All of the worlds population can fit into Ontario very easily. The idea is to make people think about the planet, maybe you should turn your lights out and think before you ask stupid questions.

  4. I recycle and haven't fished in the ocean for years, it is OK with you if I turn off my lights and save some electricity and money?

  5. Well I do agree that the lights deal is out right stupid.  As far as too many kids, heck let bin laden have a few soviet nukes and he'll take care of a few billion real quick.  Most of the states and the EU as well,

  6. 0900 GMT is, I think, 0200 where I live.  My lights will be off anyway, so I can pat myself on the back and declare myself a proud environmentalist too.

  7. I think it is important not to "put down" ppl's efforts. Some ppl start out small, I also recycle but I dont fish so I cant help there, but ppl doing what they "can" do will help. If you really cared about the environment every little bit is a step forward

  8. I totally disagree with your statement because of the following reasons.

Switching off your lights for one hour may not save that much power, but if it is a combined effort of many people, then, the event itself would be meaningful. If people decided to switch off their lights for one hour and everyone decided to do that, all their efforts would definitely combine to make a significant effect to the environment.

Secondly, this event of switching of your lights for one hour can surely help to raise the awareness of others who do not know or do not care much about the environment. Even still, when they see others do it, they might join in, adding to the ultimate aim of conserving energy.

Thirdly, regarding your suggestions on how to help the environment, they are good, but are they practical to normal people in their daily lives? We might be able to recycle some things that we buy from the supermarket and reuse them, but how many of us actually work for environmental organizations and do something about overfishing? How many of us have the time to go out to the ocean in a rented or owned boat and ask fishermen to stop overfishing?

Fourth of all, by turning of your lights is not only a good way to help the environment but also allows you to save money and cut off on the electricity bill. Furthermore, you will be able to have some time to think for yourself, what more can be done about the environement.

It is due to the following arguments that I totally disagree with your question and statement.
