I'm getting a turtle tomorrow, but well... I forgot the name of it, it's like yellow something cooter, I know the last word is cooter.

Anyone have ANY idea what it is? I wanna do alittle research before I go get it tomorrow.

Yes it's bigger than 4" (shell) and it's a legit store.

  1. It was a yellow bellied slider. There isn't a such thing as yellow bellied cooter.

It could also be a River Cooter. Good luck!

  2. There is no such thing as a Yellow-belly Cooter, so it is probably really a Yellow-belly Slider.

You can get good care sheets at http://www.redearslider.com and http://www.austinsturtlepage.com.

  3. its either yellow river cooter or yellow belly cooter

  4. If it really was a Cooter, the only cooters are:

        * Pseudemys alabamensis - Alabama Redbelly Turtle

        * Pseudemys concinna - Eastern River Cooter

        * Pseudemys floridana - Florida Cooter

        * Pseudemys gorzugi - Western River Cooter

        * Pseudemys nelsoni - Florida Redbelly Turtle

        * Pseudemys peninsularis - Peninsula Cooter

        * Pseudemys rubriventris - Eastern Redbelly Turtle

        * Pseudemys suwanniensis - Suwannee River Cooter

        * Pseudemys texana - Texas River Cooter

The Yellow-belly Slider (Trachemys scripta scripta) is a common pet turtle (a very near relative of the Red-ear Slider), and the term 'cooter' is often misapplied. In the South, it is a slang term for many turtles, especially snappers.

I'd bet you that you are talking about the Yellow-belly Slider and the sales person is just using a slang term rather than the right name.

Whether it is a Yellow-belly Slider or a species of cooter, the cares are about the same.

Try http://www.austinsturtlepage.com or http://www.redearslider.com for great care info!

By the way- if you have a choice, the Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta) is a MUCH better pet- most of the good things about the Sliders and Cooters, but a smaller adult size, so housing is easier and cheaper.

  5. Heiroglyphic cooter?

  6. um... im not sure. in the US south a cooter is a snapping turtle. i've heard people disagree though.
