Turtle attacked by fire ants?

I have a box turtle that has become a pet. I took it off the side of the road on the way home one day when it was little and now its full grown. I feed him out in my backyard in a pen because he makes a mess when he eats. We have a pretty bad problem with fire ants here out in the country and today after I had fed the turtle apparently they attacked the turtle even though he was sitting in a little pan of water. My guess is because he got some of his food on his shell? I took about 5-10 of them off him by drowning them but I dont know how many times they bit him or if theres anything I can do or should do?

  1. This is serious, fire ants are really dangerous to box turtles, and you should really put the turtle pen inside of your house to protect the turtle! Do it now to save your turtle from the fire ant threats!

  2. Contact the “herpetologicalsocieties.com“.
