  1. They will bask whenever they need to.  Check your temps...the basking temp should be about 90F.  You need to use a digital probe thermometer to measure this.  You also need a UVB light above the basking spot.  Both heat and UVB need to be on for about 12 hours a day.  Regular lamp times are cheap at stores like Walmart.  Water temps should be around 78F--use a heater made for the size tank you have.  Try to have him in at least a 20 gallon--larger as he gets older.  Here is some good info:

  2. its natural 4 him

  3. For a good light timer, just go to any hardware store or maybe even a normal store like Walmart or Target. They have those that are supposed to be used for lights or something when homeowners aren't home...But they work fine for just about anything. Just but the green pin in the dial where the time is when you want the light to turn on, and the red one for turning it off (if that didn't make sense, it's pretty self-explanatory if you buy one).

For basking, it shouldn't be much of a problem. Turtles bask when they are cold and to get some vitamins. Make sure his water temperature is high enough, and then he'll just bask when he feels like it!
