My dad brought home a turtle yesterday and I'm thinking it's an eastern box turtle....it has all the descriptions of the eastern box turtle so I'm pretty sure that's what she is. But where should we keep her until my dad makes her a cage. I already researched what she should be kept in but my dad has to make her a cage first......would our garden be ok? It has parsly and other veggies that I know they like. Help?

  1. First- if it was wild caught, it should be returned soon. It may have been illegal to catch, and wild-caught do not do as well in captivity.

Housing- an outdoor pen would be great. Make sure it has a lot of hiding places, access to a pool of water, etc.

Diet- most of the food in the wild is 'bugs'- worms, insects, arthropods, snails, and even carrion. They eat some vegetation but need a lot of protein to be healthy.

  3. you should keep it in water and a big fish tank and feed every day.

  4. box turtles are land turtles, so keeping it in the garden is a good idea for now. hope it all works out.

  5. yes, the garden is a great idea! but make sure its enclosed so she cant escape but also keep an eye out for her so other animals cant get to her ect....and as for night time maybe put

her in a box with some food and water until the cage is made...but definitly let her outside and keep and eye out for her during the day.
