We are going to italy for first time in mid-september - florence, siena, s. ginigmano, mountain towns, Cortona...We are planning on making our own reservations for small hotels. When do we absolutely need to begin this? Also any advice on how to research and then reserve? So much info out there!

  1. September is not all that busy.  I would think a month ahead is ok.  Some places might be on vacation.

  2. Personally, I think you should have already booked your accommodation if you are wanting to have a roof over your head.  Better to book an escorted tour, then you have all the problems handled by someone else. Try Insight,  Global, or Trafalgar to name a few.

  3. If the hotel you're looking at is listed in popular guidebooks or has great reviews on TripAdvisor, you should book in the next few weeks.  If it's some random, unknown hotel (try Googling it and seeing how many hits come up and how many sites like Expedia and Travelocity book it) you should be okay with a month's notice.  Tourism starts to slow down in September but Italy can still be pretty busy at that time of year.  Don't think you'll have the place to yourselves!  My favorite sites for info about hotels are TripAdvisor and Virtual Tourist... from there I usually contact the hotels directly to make my reservations.

  4. You rather maker sure NOW to have a place booked since Tuscany in  September especially in small places can be fully occupied, especially mountain towns! Can only say:  book the sooner the better in order to be certain to sleep on the spot...

  5. Will you want to be your reservation a head of time if you are certain that you are going there are policy and guide lines also the cancel policy. for more info. go to http://www.thelowestprice.globatravel.co... and book your next trip or call 1866-865-4269
