Tussling finishes in CSA 1, CSA 2 and Beach Cats classes of 2012 International Rolex Regatta
Spectators present to watch the final day proceedings of the 2012 International Rolex Regatta witnessed some of the best racing situation on the Jersey Bay waters. The final day of the event was quite tussling for the sailors participating in CSA 1, CSA
2 and the Beach Cats classes as the final standings showed some tiny margins between the first and second finishers.
Unusually, the competition in the CSA 1 class was intense and close which created a lot of thrill during the final day proceedings. The nine-boat fleet of CSA 1 class was being led by Andrea Scarabelli’s Melges 24 Budget Marine, GILL from the very first
day but on the final day, it was challenged by the second placed Doug Baker’s Magnitude 400.
Baker showed some impressive sailing skills on the last day of the regatta and hit the second spot with a mere half point margin by 15 points while Scarabelli was able to finish on top with 14.5 points.
In the CSA 2 class, Jonathan Lipuscek’s Dark Star hardly managed to retain their top spot with 14 points after sailing in six races. During their run, they clinched three bullets to hit the top spot. On the other hand, Jaime Torres’s Beneteau First 40 Smile
closely followed them and was able to finish on the second podium place with just half pint difference at 14.5.
The CSA 2 class witness a tussling competition between the top two but Torres failed to overtake the podium finishers and slipped down to Number 2 ahead of third placed Sergio Sagramoso’s Lazy Dog.
Puerto Rico’s Jorge Ramos, who was defending the Beach Cats class title, had a tremendous sail and was able to retain the title after a close fight with the second placed John Holmberg. Ramos compiled 19 points after sailing in nine races. During his campaign,
he hit five bullets which played an important role in hitting the title spot.
