  1. You should purchase the express card slot Digital TV Turner from Hewlett Packard, the maker of your machine. It comes with everything you need, including a red, white and yellow cable to connect to your cable box to stream TV to your computer. You can buy it online through HP or contact HP by phone. You can probably buy one used off of Ebay I suppose, or amazon.

  2. Don't get an PCMCIA or ExpressCard one - then you'll need something else when you get a different computer...get one that's USB so you can use it on any computer in the future.

Hauppauge makes a few TV tuners that work with USB 2.0, I have a WinTV950 one that I use on a HP dv2000 with Vista (again, no PCMCIA slot).  It also has DVR and MPEG recording software built-in and is capable of recieving HDTV.

All tv tuners anymore can do analog, most new ones can recieve digital with an antenna, and a few can recieve clearQAM (basic digital over cable).  If you have a cable box, the WinTV one may need a $16 remote/adapter cable so you can hook up the AV cables.

This is what I have - it can NOT do clear QAM but can do analog (NTSC) and digital with an antenna (ATSC):

And I also have the AV input + remote kit:

This is the one that did/will replace mine and does NTSC/ATSC/QAM:
